Mitigating the barren plateau problem in linear optics

Matthew Horner, Quantum Application Scientist, demonstrates how to speed up boson sampling implementations of variational quantum algorithms (VQAs), for example for optimisation problems, by reducing the number of barren plateaus and local minima using entanglement.

He also provides strong evidence that using boson sampling to solve VQAs has limited potential for quantum advantage, as it can be translated to a classically simulable algorithm.
