Aegiq has opened the doors to their new headquarters in Sheffield UK, as a centre of excellence for photonic quantum computing. Aegiq has ambitious growth plans of multi-million-pound investments over the next 5 years, bringing highly skilled roles to the region, with a significant proportion being graduate and early career positions.
“Aegiq’s expansion is another success story for the UK's Quantum sector and builds on the ambitions we set out earlier this year to back more quantum companies to scale and succeed in the UK”. said Lord Vallance, Science Minister. “By creating new, high‑skilled jobs and harnessing our world‑leading expertise in photonics, Aegiq’s new headquarters can drive local growth and help more sectors to reap the benefits of photonic quantum computing, from aerospace to cybersecurity and beyond.”
“South Yorkshire has always been a place that makes things – and now we’re turning that spirit of innovation into high quality jobs and a bigger, better economy.” Said South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard. “Aegiq starting and scaling their business in Sheffield shows what’s possible here, when we back what we’re good at – creating world-leading technology right here in our region, at the heart of the UK. Quantum technology has the potential to change the face of computing, and with Aegiq, South Yorkshire is right at the heart of that new era.”
“Sheffield has always been a city of innovators. From the industries that forged its global reputation for steel to the cutting‑edge technologies shaping its future. With world‑class universities nurturing the great minds of tomorrow, new innnovations ranging from sustainable aviation fuel to advanced manufacturing and now quantum computing, Sheffield continues be a leader of industry.” said Abtisam Mohamed, MP for Sheffield Central. “Aegiq’s growth builds on this, contributing to the new chapter in the city’s history, boosting Sheffield’s economy and securing our place at the forefront of the UK’s technological future.”
“Infrastructure has been critical to enabling Aegiq to build and scale in Sheffield, placing us at the heart of the UK’s world-leading advanced manufacturing ecosystem, where quantum-enabled simulation is set to be transformational,” said Scott Dufferwiel, CEO of Aegiq. “The UK Government’s £2 billion investment to strengthen the national quantum capability closely aligns with our sovereign supply chain partnerships, building on the UKs leadership in compound semiconductors and photonics.”
Aegiq’s goal is to deliver quantum computers at scale based on photonics, leveraging semiconductor manufacturing supply chain in the UK and EU, working with industry leaders across the UK and around the world to deliver real-world impact in advanced manufacturing, defence, clean energy and healthcare.
