Founded as a spin-out from University of Sheffield in December. Built on two decades of university research in quantum photonics.
We design quantum computers that can realistically simulate nature — enabling new materials, processes, and discoveries that classical computing cannot reach.
Spun out of the University of Sheffield with over 20 years of foundational research in quantum photonics. We build photonic quantum computers for quantum simulation. Our systems generate and distribute on-demand entanglement so researchers and engineers can model chemistry, materials, and physical processes with fewer approximations, and faster iteration.

We exist to turn quantum computing from laboratory demonstrations into deployable systems by solving the hardest prerequisite first: generating and distributing high‑quality entanglement when it is needed, across a manufacturable platform.
This is what makes photonic quantum systems scalable and deployable, not just experimental. Our systems are designed to work alongside existing HPC, GPU and AI infrastructure, acting as an additional compute engine rather than a replacement.

Aegiq has been awarded a prestigious Institute of Physics Business Start-Up Award for the development of a breakthrough quantum photonics platform enabling new applications in quantum communications, computing, and imaging utilising high-performance sources of indistinguishable single photons.

Aegiq has secured significant investment from Black Quant and Quantum Exponential, as well as private angels. Together, with existing funding from Innovate UK and High-Tech Gründerfonds, the investment brings Aegiq’s total available funding to nearly £4m.
